“When I enter my altar, I am of a different mind.” Norbert Running Lakota shaman.
Of a different mind
I have met many shamans and mystics on my road of life and received many understandings about the nature of our reality. I’d like to share one such understanding….
Shamans know that man is two beings. One is physical flesh and earth bound, and the other is his spiritual/energetic counterpart. Man also has two minds: the physical rational thinking mind called intellect which constantly talks and argues with itself – and the quiet mind that is connected to the spiritual reality of Source – the mysterious force that vitalises all living things with the energy that we call ‘life’.
Reality consists of two parallel worlds that in the Yaqui tradition are known as the tonal(physical) and the nagual(the non physical)
Indigenous shamans instinctively understand that all life is infused with the spiritual power of Source and that this invisible realm penetrates every aspect of our being. And, that under certain conditions this power can be contacted and even become visible.
Spirit helpers or allies
To focus power, a shaman needs allies in spiritual reality – this helper can be an animal, bird, reptile, insect, a wanagi (ghost) or any inanimate object such as stones. The allies being non physical beings can in fact take any form they like.
The mystical mind of the shaman can fuse with all of life and become it – because he knows that everything is connected and can shift his intent into the spiritual world, and walk in two realities – the physical and the spiritual. (See my article Crying for a Dream)
The creation of a power object
All the Lakota medicine men that I have come into contact with use round stones to focus the energy of the unseen world and crystals to doctor and heal. They use round stones as power objects for healing, and eye stones for locating missing people or their property.
So how does an ordinary stone become a power object?
When the stone is painted or ceremonially connected to another object it becomes a focus of the shaman’s energetic intent, and through the repetition of ritual becomes an extension of his will. I have known men of power who walked the prairie looking for the small, white round stones that are often seen on the top of mole hills. These stones are sacred to the shaman and once infused with his intent have the ability to make a mysterious connection with unseen forces; energy fields that changes the ordinary into the extra-ordinary, and can connect the shaman with a new dimension of power. With the energy of Source – miracles of profound proportions can occur.
Students of nature
Shamans are students of nature. They are often solitary, quiet and patient. They observe the movement of life, learn the laws that govern creation and act accordingly.
They do not get their information from the internet or short cut shamanic books written by the ignorant to turn a quick buck. Instead they trust their own personal experience, and their powers of observation and deduction.
When Chief Leonard Crow Dog was asked by a journalist what university he attended, he smiled and said. “You are standing on it.”
Two kinds of shaman
There are two kinds of shaman. One that through a mystical sympathy can synthesize the physical and spiritual sides of his nature. He is a healer and visionary who use Source energy for the good of all that lives.
The wakansica(bad holy) as he is called in Lakota uses the power of fear based black magic for his own dark and selfish purpose, namely money, sex and power. He assumes that the Source energy can be used as he pleases. He is completely unaware of the Law of Return and eventually reaps a bitter harvest.
Entities
In our world, we have good people and evil people and all the polarities in between. It is the same in the spiritual realm, there are good spirits and demonic spirits. Non human entities are drawn to a shaman by sympathetic resonance. A person who is love based will attract a benign and helpful spirit who demands no payment for their services, but a hate based person will attract demons and even though miracles may take place there is always a hefty price to pay, a price that will bring negative reality to all concerned.
Health is both physical and spiritual
Most people are concerned with their physical health and pay little attention to their spiritual well being. They think that if they eat right and exercise that is all that is necessary to keep their bodies healthy. They do not realise that our vital energetic body is poisoned by our negative and violent thinking…distorted by our spiteful words and actions.
We can see from Masaru Emoto’s work how our emotions affect the molecular structure of water. Our bodies are eighty percent water; therefore it follows that our negative thinking can disrupt our energetic patterns and cause dis-ease.
Observe your thinking and align yourself with life….
Until next time…Much love

October 24, 2017 at 5:02 amAnutha perfectly normal article from my all time flavourite slightly bigger sister…….
SIT, fairly comfortable position…I like ‘back to the wall’ as it seems an adequate metaphor, especially NOW and ‘lately’.
Close your eyes.
Look at the inner energy arrangement thing with your perception…….your ability to so do.
Not with your eyes.
Observe your or what you think and have been taught are ‘your thoughts.’
Look beyond them to your heart/chest/lung space…..
Watch and as importantly FEEL the movement of what we have been taught to think of a the ‘breath.’
RUACH….
find out your thoughts have reinserted themselves and you have run off on multiple tangents….and have lost touch, literally…
Return to the heart/breath……
Rinse and repeat until you HAVE TO get up…..but keep remembering to keep part of your attention
with the breath….some cultures say that they are COUNTED, and we will be held responsible and ACCOUNTABLE for what we do with them, even if it’s our OWN accounting…
Keep at it until you die.

October 24, 2017 at 5:54 amIf I may, I would recommend Mircea Eliade’s “Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy” as it is a record of late C19th/early C20th explorers’ accounts of their encounters with indigenous shamans (mainly from the North and lower Arctic Circle). Also, “The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries” by Evans-Wentz is worth a read as it chronicles ‘modern’ encounters with the Otherworld by ordinary, mainly rustic, people. Apparently, encounters that were once common began to die out quite drastically after 1840, commensurate with the rise of Industrialisation and the increase in cities.
It must be remembered that 99% of indigenous shamanism involved, at some stage, animal sacrifice. The ancestral spirits often demanded this. You only need to watch Bruce Parry’s series ‘Tribe’ to see that this is still a part of many indigenous cultures today. Whether it is flesh, blood, fruit, milk, butter, or the energies of devotion, sex or fear – the ‘spirits’ need to be fed, just as we do while incarnate. Of course, this puts a differing light on the ‘Curse of Cain’ as YHWH refused his offering of fruit & flowers, while Abel sacrificed a live lamb much to the demon’s satisfaction.

October 24, 2017 at 9:15 amThanks Mick🙂 Blood sacrifice is part and parcel of YHWH aka Lucifer’s world. Puppies are killed on this reservation by so called shamans to placate the thunder beings – this in my view is black magic. In the sundance the dancers give their own flesh as an offering which is still a blood sacrifice of sorts…. people just don’t realise it! What are they praying to?
I read ‘The Fairy Faith’ a long time ago, and most recorded encounters with faerie beings in Ireland and Scotland have been negative. My childhood experience with supernatural beings was also negative. That’s one of the reasons I joined AMORC at fifteen years old to try and find out what was happening to me. Ha! The short answer is – it’s all about resonance….how much fear, arrogance and hate we carry…and I was a very fearful and lonely child.
Today my experience with supernatural beings is very different because I am no longer fearful. I was listening to Steve Quayle(christian ministry)and he had a guest on who was talking about demonic attacks on his christian flock! Namely incubus and succubus. I had to smile, all I can say is that those people who were attacked had piss poor resonance. As you are aware from my books I have had interaction with such beings but on a much higher frequency.
Much love, Crow💕
Mick
October 24, 2017 at 1:36 pmThey weren’t all negative though, hence Low Faerie and High Faerie. A.E had some wonderful insights, though again, only an infinitessimal fraction can be described in words. Life then was hard and cruel, without much of the cossetting we have now. It seems the link between ancestors and Faerie were blurred – we are Faerie! Fractals of ourselves interacting with fractals of ourselves, lol – and may that laugh be loud!
I will have to read your books again to be able to comment fully. Though I did feel a bit sad that Manannan Mac Lir was made into the ‘Evil One’. Reminded me of the sorrow I feel for Tiamat, much maligned and misconstrued, perhaps.
Aine is certainly an Ishtar/Inanna figure with her shadow – Lilith/Ereshkigal. Ironically, it was the Triple Morrigan who incited war, and Ishtar loved to wade through the blood of the slain on the battlefield, though she was also the goddess of Love. Venus is really Athene, while Aphrodite is the moon. Menstruation is an imposed monthly blood sacrifice ritual. It is all one story really, involving one family – us 🙂
I sympathise with your idealising of the Georgian era, a higher frequency rids it of the horrendous underbelly of poverty and abuse 🙂
Did you ever watch the UK tv series Taboo? That was set around 1812, and contained profound threads that were never fully explored, mores the pity 🙁

October 24, 2017 at 2:05 pmAll the stories I heard from my grandmother who ‘was a bit odd’ as they say! Runs in the family lol! was that Manannan was negative. Did I send you the photograph of the Cathac in the Cliffs of Moher? because Manannan too is in the picture wading through the water in his broad black hat and oilskins….very creepy.
I guess with Aine it’s all about redemption from ugliness into beauty….when she exchanged talismans with her brother, she broke Manannan’s programme in herself…but in book three we see that they are not free of their desire for sex with humans. The manuscript is at the publishers being edited.
I have a lot of fake Georgian style furniture!and I love the clothes and buckled shoes and the poetic politeness of the Regency era…That’s why Trevelyan appeared to me as he did…sympathetic resonance. He’s one crafty faerie lol! And no, I haven’t seen Taboo..but I sense that it is the same thread that we are now exploring 🙂

October 25, 2017 at 7:11 amWell, depends which side of the family your on :-0
Yes, I have the photograph with the stone Jotunn.
Manannan – Poseiden – Shiva. Lord of the Abyss, above and below. Which makes him Enki, Lord of the Earth, aka Satan/Saturn, Lord of the Blessed Isle where there is no time.
The broad hat denotes Odin in his aspect as Njord, God of the sea. But he is really a solar god, equating with Horus, and in very negative aspect Balor, Lord of the Fomor, aka Typhon/Sauron.
As a solar power he represents conscious thought and the creation of the mind, in other words the programming of this plane (the 9 worlds). He is a bringer of light (enlightenment/illumination) and therefore is a Lucifer.
This prison is a world of light, our cells containing both photons and ‘sea’ water.

October 24, 2017 at 2:20 pmI think all ‘faerie being interactions’ have the potential to be positive or negative depending on our state of mind and the speed of our vibrations. If we are by nature, cruel, jealous, vindictive etc…our vibrations will be slow and therefore we will enter the exact same frequency in their reality…and what will manifest will be demonic. We see a great example of this in book two when the company enter a sorcerous time line on the hill of the Ghrian Sidhe.

October 24, 2017 at 11:09 amAn understanding of Don Juan Matus:
Our self-reflection is literally a mirror through which we observe the soul; while we stare at our own reflection finding wonderment or disappointment with ourselves, the world is there just slightly out of our grasp….. Self reflection is our interpretation of world, it is our description of reality, but seeing the world as through a prism… With the light broken and the image distorted! When we learn to quieten our minds and stop the chattering, we will eventually learn to by-pass this self-reflective process and see the world for what it is, or rather for ‘how’ it is! The truths we find so solid and immovable are rooted in our perception which are in turn informed by our self-reflection!

October 24, 2017 at 5:37 pmYes, what ‘word/world/whirled’ are we ‘co-creating’ with our thoughts? ‘Co-creating’ because of ALL THE EXISTENTIAL PROGRAMMING we have received from intention/conception……..as much of which as possible needs to be brought into awareness/neutralised/transcended….the condition of ‘apparent materiality’ means that something must be put in its place…..
Buddha in his time was into ‘pure neutral awareness,’ so they say….
I went to the Cliffs of Moher but it was a very windy day…..

October 24, 2017 at 5:42 pmOr rather, what we COULD BE/HAVE BEEN? without the programming can (must?)be ALLOWED, although the inertial energy trying to prevent this is considerable, which is why shamanic training tends to last decades if not a lifetime.
It is in any case a lifetime process, and has nothing to do with weekend workshops or festivals or seminars, but anyone who cares to LIVE IN THE WORKSHOP 24/7/365 is most welcome.

October 30, 2017 at 1:11 pmFrom ‘Hostage to the Devil’ by Fr Malachi Martin (pp 11-12):
The voice of Wu pursued them over the noise: “It’s all one. Fool! We’re all the same. Always were. Always.” Michael and the captain were outside by then and turned around to listen. “There’s only one of us. One . . .”
Then the fixity of Thomas’ grin broke; his face seemed to be replaced by another face with a similar grin. At the top speed of a kaleidoscope, a long succession of faces came and went, one flickering after the other. All grinning. All with “Cain’s thumbprint on the chin,” as Michael described the mark that haunted him for the rest of his life. Every pair of lips was rounded into the grinning shape of Thomas’ last word: “one!” Faces and expressions Michael never had known. Some he imagined he knew. Some he knew he imagined. Some he had seen in history books, in paintings, in churches, in newspapers, in nightmares. Japanese, Chinese, Burmese, Korean, British, Slavic. Old, young, bearded, clean-shaven. Black, white, yellow. Male, female. Faster. Faster. All grinning with the same grin. More and more and more. Michael felt himself hurtling down an unending lane of faces, decades and centuries and millennia ticking by him, until the speed slowed finally, and the last grinning face appeared, wreathed in hate, its chin just one big thumbprint. Now the window was completely black Michael could see nothing. “Cain . . .” he began to say weakly to himself. But a stablike realization stopped the word in his throat, just as if someone had hissed into his inner ear: “Wrong again, fool! Cain’s father. I. The cosmic Father of Lies and the cosmic Lord of Death. From the beginning of the beginning. I … I … I … I … I …”

The warrior is not someone who fights,
because no one has the right to take another life.
The warrior, for us, is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others.
His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, the children, the future of humanity.”

November 2, 2017 at 8:50 amHi elva ,
Re reading these comments reminded me
About a synchronistic ? Incident from 15 years
Ago , when I lived in Bristol . Back then I was
Very much into tribal trance techno music and
Frequented a club called Lakota .The venue was
Previously the site of a slaughterhouse in the
Stokes croft area, near the city centre .
At the time , this was a quite a run down , uncared
For place .Every week hundreds of us would go
There to dance all night , not always chemically
Enhanced , and while dancing I would imagine
We were somehow healing or rebalancing the
Energy of the site .Early one morning , walking
Home from a very full on session , I crept into
The garden of a Georgian town house to answer
A call of nature . As I relieved my bladder in a
Shrubbery I felt a presence nearby .To my left
I could make out the outlines of two or three beings ,
Moving in the bushes . Startled , I turned my head
Towards them but saw nothing but leaves . On
Turning away they moved back into my peripheral
Vision as I finished my interrupted business .
I could then see they were actually made of leaves
Or outlines of transparent humanoid beings .They
Moved a little closer , seemingly curious but wary of me .
They felt benign and when I said hello they quickly
Moved away . It was an exciting , lovely encounter ,
Never repeated , sadly . Apparently , in recent years
Stokes croft has been rejuvenated and is now a thriving
Part of the old city .

November 3, 2017 at 5:50 amThe first time I went to America/Turtle Island I wound up sat on my suitcase in the dark in a freezingly well below zero snowy wood on the outskirts of Schenectady (NY) ….I was thoroughly lost….
then I realised I was watching the shadowy outlines of what appeared to be a whole ‘Indian’ village with dozens going about their business….
I watched this for some time….
then my attention was caught by a silver Mercedes which stopped in the middle of the 5 way road junction across the way….there had been no other vehicles at all……it just sat there steaming in the frost….and stayed there for about 5 minutes.
So with a last look at the visible/invisible village I picked up my suitcase and guitar and walked across to the Merc and tapped on the driver’s window, which electrically buzzed down halfway, and I asked the driver, ‘Do you know where 9265 Central Parkway is?’
‘Jump in,’ he said. ‘I live next door.’

August 12, 2018 at 1:45 pmI guess what brings me here is curiosity. I’ve met two Shamans in my life and both have shocked me with accurate remarks that describe my twisted kooky soul. The second presented me a gift, a tuning fork. To say it was a kind thing to do probably wouldn’t do justice in terms of the meaning or symbolism behind the giving of a gift (or would it be a power object, I don’t know) rather than the gift itself. I’m curious to learn more about the meaning behind actions and to even learn basic knowledge about what it means to be a Shaman, their purpose or purposes (not so much goals), their abilities or what they do, what’s important to them or especially their heart, passions, and any other relative information or significant wisdom that’s one should learn or know about Shamans if one wishes to really know who and what being a Shaman is all about. I probably shouldn’t say more info out of respect incase I shouldn’t blab about this publicly other than the fact that we both connect on cheep cheeps (birds)…. I believe I hear their distress via telepathy (and various past experiences have confirmed that I gave telepathic experiences with humans. For example, I’ve heard a human’s thought and then the next day it’s confirmed by the human saying out loud the same comment I had heard earlier viatelepathy using the same tone of voice and everything.) And cheep cheeps are such sweet souls, it breaks my heart to sense their pain..And I feel helpless currently but am trying to change that helpless feeling by trying to seek out more answers…So the fact that this Shaman and I connect on birds tells my heart that this is a significant event…that’s what brought me here indirectly.
